Anniesa Hasibuan - Runway - September 2016 - New York Fashion Week: The Shows

Anniesa decided to make political statement at her show by hiring immigrant models to walk the runway during New York Fashion Week. A lot of designers have taken this approach for their fashion shows because they want to want discuss a bigger topic and due tot the current political issues with immigrants and racial behaviour towards Muslims have caused Anniesa to decide the models to wear hijabs.

She recently said in an interview for Elle “For me, fashion is an open world. No one is discriminated.” She did this to show that wearing a hijab and that Islam is beautiful, because the religion has been portrayed negatively in the past throughout media. For the casting for the models, they were interviewed by their backgrounds and their political views on the muslim band and what is going on in the world.

A lot of designers are taking inspiration form Anniesa, and using models wearing hijabs to support that they are not discriminating. This fashion showed that someones religion should never be an issue, in the fashion industry or in any industry. However this is one of the first times that a hijab model has walked the runway, it is shocking that this has not happened before. Huge political changes had to be made in order for something like to happen.
